Explain Everything · export video · about 2 min per hour

Transcribe an Explain Everything lesson every word said at the whiteboard.

To transcribe a whiteboard lesson recorded in Explain Everything, export the project as a video, usually an MP4, and upload it here; a two-hour lesson is transcribed in about 4 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and 120 minutes of lesson takes part of the $6 pack of 500 minutes. WhipScribe has no Explain Everything integration; it transcribes the exported video.

From whiteboard to text

The drawing explains the idea. The narration is what students search later.

Export the lesson as a video

An Explain Everything project keeps strokes, slides and audio together in its own format, which a transcription service cannot read. Export the recording as a video instead; MP4 is the usual choice, and the export settings let you decide where it saves. If you put the video in Google Drive, its share link can be pasted directly.

Speech, not handwriting

The transcript holds what was said, not what was drawn. Lessons where the teacher reads each step aloud while writing come back far richer than silent sketching, so narrating the equation as you write pays off twice. Formula names, page numbers and the homework you set aloud all land in the list of names, numbers and dates.

What a unit of lessons costs

Twenty whiteboard lessons of 90 minutes each total 1,800 minutes, inside the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes with 200 to spare. A single two-hour lesson uses 120 of the 500 minutes in the $6 pack. Because credits do not lapse, one pack can stretch across the school year.

One upload per lesson

Drop the exported file on upload page. The whole lesson returns as one transcript with timestamps that match the video, so a student can jump from a line of text straight to the moment it was drawn. A student who missed the lesson can read it in minutes instead of watching every stroke.

Where whiteboard lessons stall

The lesson replays stroke by stroke. Revising from it takes the full two hours again.

✗ Replaying the board

Students scrub the video to find one worked example.

  • Rewinding to hear how a step was justified
  • Notes copied from the board without the reasoning
  • A 25 MB limit on the Whisper API, under a single lesson video
  • Splitting the export so short tools accept it
  • Timestamps that differ from the video
  • Homework dates announced aloud, then forgotten

✓ Reading the lesson

The spoken reasoning, written out beside the timestamps.

  • One file per lesson, start to finish
  • Chapters at each new problem
  • Names, numbers and dates spoken during the lesson
  • The questions the lesson answers
  • A chat that finds where a method was explained
  • SRT or VTT captions for the lesson video

00:02:30 Today we finish ratios, so keep the worksheet from last week next to you.
00:26:14 I am circling the denominator because that is where most mistakes start.
00:53:47 Try the next one yourself, then press play when you have an answer.
01:22:05 Notice that the same method works for the recipe problem and the map problem.
01:56:40 The quiz on this unit is next Thursday, and it covers everything up to here.

FAQ

Explain Everything lessons, answered.

How long does a two-hour whiteboard lesson take?

Around 4 minutes, with transcription running at roughly 2 minutes per hour of audio. A one-hour lesson is ready in about 2.

Can I upload the Explain Everything project file?

No. The project format holds drawings and audio for the app itself. Export a video, then upload it. A lesson you already posted to YouTube can be pasted as a link instead.

What does a unit of lessons cost?

Twenty 90-minute lessons, 1,800 minutes, fit the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes. One two-hour lesson fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes. On a first visit the first 20 minutes are free, and a pack transcribes the rest from the point where the preview stopped.

Does it read the handwriting on the board?

No. WhipScribe transcribes speech. Equations written but never spoken will not appear, so narrating each step is the way to get them into the text.

Is there an integration with Explain Everything?

No plugin, connection or classroom bot exists. WhipScribe works on the video you export, or on a YouTube or Drive link to it.

Which exports and languages are available, and is the lesson private?

Exports are TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON, and lessons in 99 languages are recognised without a setting. The teacher, and anyone else who speaks, is named in the summary, key quotes and chapters. Lessons are transcribed on our own servers and never used for training.
