Gather · screen-recorded sessions · about 2 min per audio hour

Transcribe a Gather session recorded from your own screen.

A Gather all-hands or virtual event recorded with a screen recorder uploads here as a file, and a 3-hour event is transcribed in about 6 minutes, up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file. Four 1-hour all-hands plus one 3-hour event make 420 minutes in a month, inside the $6 pack of 500, after the first 20 minutes free.

A virtual office, on the record

Gather was built for being together, not for keeping what was said. A screen recorder fills that gap.

Capturing the session

Gather does not give most spaces a simple record button, so teams capture sessions with a screen recorder such as OBS Studio or the one built into the operating system. Include system audio, or the remote voices will be missing. Everyone being recorded should know, and the consent the law where you are requires comes first.

What comes out of the recorder

Screen recorders usually save MP4 or MKV, and macOS often saves MOV. MP4 and MOV upload as they are; for an MKV, check it is accepted or remux it to MP4. An audio-only capture keeps a long event far smaller.

Six minutes for an event

A 3-hour Gather event takes about 6 minutes at roughly 2 minutes per audio hour. A full 7-hour community day comes back in about 14, still inside the 10-hour limit for one file.

Talks, not chatter

Chapters split the welcome, each talk and the open discussion; the brief gives the takeaways; the names, numbers and dates said aloud are collected. Ambient sound and music in the space are left out, and the speech is what gets written down once it reaches the upload page.

After everyone walks out of the space

The all-hands happened in a virtual room. Afterwards there is nothing to point a new hire at.

✗ Gone when the room empties

Without a capture, the event leaves only memories and a chat log.

  • Announcements repeated in three channels
  • New hires missing last month's all-hands
  • Event talks with no written recap
  • Screen recordings too big for text tools
  • Hours of video nobody scrubs through
  • A meeting bot that Gather never had

✓ The space, written down

A screen capture of the session becomes a document the team can share.

  • About 6 minutes for a 3-hour event
  • 420 minutes a month on the $6 pack
  • Chapters for each talk
  • Questions from the floor, listed
  • Hosts named in the brief and key quotes
  • SRT if the recording is shared

FAQ

Gather recordings, answered.

Can WhipScribe record my Gather space?

No. There is no Gather integration and nothing enters your space. Record the session yourself with a screen recorder, then upload the file; if the recording ends up on YouTube, Vimeo or Google Drive, paste that link instead.

Which screen recorder works best?

Any recorder that captures system audio. OBS Studio, the macOS screenshot toolbar and the Windows Game Bar are common choices. The audio track is what matters, so an audio-only setting is fine for a long event.

How long does it take?

About 2 minutes per audio hour: a 1-hour all-hands in about 2, a 3-hour event in about 6, a 7-hour community day in about 14.

What does a year of all-hands cost?

Fifty weekly 1-hour all-hands are 3,000 minutes, which the $24 pack of 5,000 covers with room for events. A smaller team with one monthly 2-hour session uses 1,440 minutes a year, on the $12 pack of 2,000.

What if the recording is huge?

The ceiling is 10 hours or 5 GB per capture. Screen-recorded video at high resolution grows fast; before a pack is on the account, uploads stop at 2 GB, so record at a lower resolution or audio-only if the event is long.

Languages, formats, and who sees the audio?

99 languages are detected automatically, and an event that switches language is handled on its main one. Export TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON. Gather recordings are transcribed on our own servers and never used for training.
