Meet MP4 in Drive · paste the link · about 2 min per audio hour

Transcribe a long Google Meet recording by pasting its Drive link.

Google Meet saves a recording as an MP4 in the organiser's Google Drive, so you can paste its Drive share link here instead of downloading anything, and a 2-hour meeting is transcribed in about 4 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and a pack from $6 transcribes the rest of the recording from where the preview ended.

Meet recordings already live in Drive

The file is in Drive and Drive links work here, so there is nothing to download.

The Meet Recordings folder

When a meeting is recorded, Google saves the MP4 to a folder called Meet Recordings in the organiser's My Drive, and the organiser receives an email with a link once it is ready. Long meetings take a while to process on Google's side, so wait for that email before you share the link.

Paste the Drive link instead

Copy the file's share link from Drive and paste it into the box. We fetch the MP4 directly, which saves you moving a large video through your own connection. If you prefer to upload, download the MP4 and use the upload page, which takes one file up to 5 GB.

Set sharing so we can read it

A link we cannot open comes back with a not-shared message. Set the file to Anyone with the link can view before pasting it, or upload the file instead if your organisation does not allow that setting. You can switch sharing back once the transcript is done.

A folder of meetings at once

A Drive folder link works too, so a term of recorded seminars or a quarter of weekly calls can go in from one paste. Each recording becomes its own transcript, with its own brief, chapters with timestamps, and a chat you can ask about that meeting.

Why Meet recordings pile up

Drive keeps every meeting. Finding one sentence in them is the hard part.

✗ A folder of videos

The Meet Recordings folder fills up, and every question means opening another two-hour MP4.

  • Downloading gigabytes to work locally
  • Scrubbing through video to find a figure
  • No summary to send absent colleagues
  • Recordings nobody has time to rewatch
  • Quotes copied without a time to check
  • One meeting at a time, by hand

✓ Linked, not downloaded

The Drive link goes in and the meeting comes back as text with chapters and a brief.

  • Two hours back in about 4 minutes
  • 20 free minutes to start
  • Folder links for a whole term
  • Participants named in the brief and quotes
  • $12 pack of 2,000 minutes for a term
  • Exports for minutes and captions

Sample

A recorded Google Meet seminar, an hour in.

This sample is illustrative and was written for this page, not taken from a real Meet recording. Timestamps are measured from the start of the Meet recording.

00:58:12 Let's take the second reading now. I asked everyone to come with one objection, so let's hear them in turn.
01:03:40 My objection is to the sample. Forty interviews from one city cannot carry a claim about the whole region.
01:05:02 That is fair, and it is the question the authors answer in their appendix. Let's look at what they say there.
01:41:55 So for next week, I will bring the comparison table, and the two of you take the methods section.

FAQ

Google Meet recordings, the common questions.

How long does a 2-hour Google Meet recording take?

About 4 minutes once we have the file, at around 2 minutes per hour of audio. Fetching from a Drive link usually starts within moments. A 6-hour workshop takes about 12 minutes, and you do not have to keep the page open.

What does a term of recorded seminars cost?

Twelve weekly two-hour seminars come to 1,440 minutes, which the $12 pack (2,000 minutes) covers with 560 to spare. A single two-hour meeting is 120 minutes on the $6 pack (500 minutes). The minutes never expire and no subscription is involved.

Why does my Drive link say it is not shared?

The file is still restricted to your organisation or to named people. Change General access to Anyone with the link, or download the MP4 and upload it. Links from a shared drive work the same way once that sharing is set.

How big can a Meet recording be?

A single recording can be up to 10 hours or 5 GB. Before a pack is on the account, uploads go up to 2 GB, and a larger recording starts once a pack is there. A session that ran longer than 10 hours should be split and sent as two files.

Which languages does it handle?

99, detected automatically. That covers meetings in Portuguese, Korean, Japanese, Afrikaans or Zulu without any setting. A meeting where people switch language is detected on its main language, and English and Tagalog together are handled.

What can I export, and what happens to the file?

Every meeting exports as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Meet recordings fetched from Drive are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and you can delete the file and transcript whenever you like.
