Teams MP4 · about 2 min per audio hour · first 20 min free

Transcribe a long Microsoft Teams recording from the MP4 in OneDrive.

A Teams meeting recording is an MP4 saved to OneDrive or, for a channel meeting, to the channel's SharePoint site; download it there and upload it here, and a 3-hour meeting is transcribed in about 6 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and a $6 pack of 500 minutes finishes the other two hours and forty minutes.

Getting the MP4 out of Teams

Teams saves the meeting somewhere sensible. You just need the file in hand before it can become text.

Find the file first

For a meeting outside a channel, the recording usually lands in a Recordings folder in the OneDrive of the person who pressed record. For a channel meeting it goes to the channel's files in SharePoint. Open it from the meeting chat or from that folder, choose Download, and you have an ordinary MP4 on your computer.

Upload it, do not link it

OneDrive and SharePoint links need your organisation's sign-in to open, so they are not something we can fetch. Upload the downloaded MP4 instead. A three-hour meeting in video is often several hundred megabytes or more, and a file larger than the box here takes continues on the upload page.

Download before it expires

Many organisations set Teams recordings to expire after a period, and an expired recording is gone from OneDrive. If a long training or a client workshop matters, download the MP4 soon after the meeting. If the Download option is greyed out, the person who recorded it or the site owner can usually save a copy for you.

Minutes, owners and dates

A long Teams meeting comes back with a brief, chapters with timestamps, the names, numbers and dates that were said, and the questions it answered. Speakers are identified and named in the summary, key quotes and chapters, which is most of what the person writing the minutes needs.

Why Teams recordings sit unread

The recording exists. Nobody will rewatch three hours of it.

✗ Left in OneDrive

The meeting stays a video link in the chat until it quietly expires.

  • Rewatching to find who agreed to what
  • A video that needs a company sign-in
  • Recordings that expire on a schedule
  • Minutes written from someone's memory
  • No way to quote a decision with its time
  • A live caption feed that vanished after the call

✓ One MP4, one transcript

The download goes up once and comes back as text with a clock you can point to.

  • About 6 minutes for three hours
  • Opening 20 minutes free
  • $6 pack of 500 minutes, no subscription
  • Attendees named in the brief and quotes
  • Chapters across the agenda
  • DOCX ready for the minutes

00:04:02 Let's start with the open actions from last week. There are six, and two of them are blocking the release.
00:37:15 The test environment is back as of Tuesday. We lost three days, so the integration window moves to the twenty-first.
01:22:40 The revised quote came in eleven percent higher. I need a decision on the second vendor by Friday.
02:51:30 Actions for next week: the vendor decision, the new integration date in the plan, and the risk log updated before Monday.

FAQ

Microsoft Teams recordings, the common questions.

How long does a 3-hour Teams recording take to transcribe?

Roughly 6 minutes after the upload finishes, at about 2 minutes per hour of audio. A one-hour stand-up is ready in about 2 minutes and a 5-hour workshop in about 10. You can close the tab; the transcript waits in your Library.

What do long Teams meetings cost?

A 3-hour meeting is 180 minutes, inside the $6 pack (500 minutes). A department that records a 25-hour training series uses 1,500 minutes, which fits the $12 pack (2,000 minutes). Packs are one-time, the minutes never expire, and nothing renews.

Where exactly is my Teams recording saved?

For most scheduled and ad hoc meetings, in a Recordings folder in the OneDrive of the person who started the recording. For a meeting held in a channel, in that channel's SharePoint files. The meeting chat also shows a link to it once processing is finished.

The MP4 is very large. Will it upload?

The ceiling per MP4 is 10 hours or 5 GB. Without a pack, an upload can be up to 2 GB; a bigger MP4 starts once one is bought. If the video is over 5 GB, save its audio as an MP3 and upload that; a meeting that ran past 10 hours goes in as two files.

Does it work when the meeting mixed languages?

Yes. 99 languages are detected automatically, so a meeting in German, Swedish or Hebrew needs no setting. A recording that switches language is detected on its main language, and English and Tagalog in the same meeting are handled.

Who can see the recording once I upload it?

Only your account. Your Teams MP4 is transcribed on our own servers and is never used for training, no bot ever joins the meeting itself, and you can delete the file and transcript at any time. You can export the meeting as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON.
