JAVS · audio or video export

Transcribe a long JAVS courtroom recording into text you can prepare from.

To transcribe a long JAVS courtroom recording, get an export of the hearing from the court, usually through the clerk or records office, as an audio or video file and upload it here; a seven-hour trial day is ready in about 14 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, the $6 pack of 500 minutes covers one such day, and a five-day trial at seven hours a day (2,100 minutes) needs the $24 pack because it runs just past the $12 pack's 2,000.

From court video to text

A sitting day on camera, searchable by the minute.

Getting a copy of the record

JAVS systems record the courtroom, and copies are released by the court, not by the system itself. Request the hearing as a standard audio or video file; the format depends on the court's set-up, so check what you received before uploading, and should the upload refuse it, convert it to MP3 first.

Audio and video both work

A video export is usually an MP4 and uploads as it is; only the speech is transcribed. If the video is very large, an audio-only copy of the same hearing is far smaller and gives the same text. Large files can go through the upload page.

One trial day, one file

A full sitting day fits one file of up to 10 hours or 5 GB. Before your first pack the upload limit is 2 GB, so a long video export may need a pack on the account first, or an audio-only copy instead.

A working transcript, plainly described

The day comes back with chapters by witness and session, and the judge, counsel and witnesses are named in the summary, key quotes and chapters. It is an AI transcript with timestamps to work from: not a certified court transcript, not a substitute for a court reporter and not legal advice.

Why court video is slow to use

A whole day on camera, and one answer you need from it.

✗ Scrubbing the video

Finding one exchange in a day of courtroom video means watching most of it again.

  • Seven hours of footage per sitting day
  • A video file too large for most tools
  • Gallery notes that miss the exact words
  • An official transcript ordered and still pending
  • No way to search what a witness said
  • Each day reviewed separately by hand

✓ Search the day

Upload the export once, and every exchange has a timestamp you can play back.

  • Seven hours of court in about 14 minutes
  • Witnesses named in chapters and quotes
  • Dates and amounts listed with times
  • Audio-only copies keep the file small
  • $24 covers a 2,100-minute trial week
  • SRT to sit beside the courtroom video

Sample

FAQ

JAVS recordings, the common questions.

How long does a JAVS export take?

Around 2 minutes per hour of audio, so a seven-hour day is ready in about 14 minutes and a three-hour afternoon session in about 6.

What does a whole trial cost?

One seven-hour day is 420 minutes and fits the $6 pack. Five such days come to 2,100 minutes, just over the $12 pack's 2,000, so the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes covers the trial with room for the next one.

Will an MP4 video export upload?

Yes, MP4 uploads directly and only the speech is transcribed. A file over 2 GB starts once a pack is on the account; an audio-only copy avoids that and uploads faster.

What if a sitting runs longer than 10 hours?

Upload it as two files, divided at a recess. Each part has its own clock from zero, so note the length of the first part when you cite times from the second.

Can it handle testimony in Spanish or through an interpreter?

Court language is detected automatically, from 99. A hearing that moves between English and an interpreted language is detected on its main language and the switches are handled, but check interpreted passages against the audio.

Which exports, and where is the audio processed?

You can download the hearing as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Court exports are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
