Transcribe long recordings from a Nikon Z camera interviews and lectures, clip by clip.
A Nikon Z camera writes its movies as MOV or MP4 files into the DCIM folder of the memory card, and a 2-hour lecture or interview from it is text in about 4 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and the $6 pack of 500 minutes transcribes the other 100 with 400 left.
Off the card, into text
Copy the clip from the card, check its size, and send the clip or its sound.
Where the Z clips are
Movies land in the DCIM folder alongside the stills, in a numbered subfolder. Many Z bodies let you choose MOV or MP4 under the movie file type setting; check your model's menu. Either container uploads, and the file name carries the clip number in the order it was shot.
When video is too heavy
Size follows the bitrate. A clip at 50 Mbps grows by 22.5 GB an hour (50 divided by 8, times 3,600), so a long lecture on a high-quality setting can pass the 5 GB limit. Save the soundtrack as MP3 in any editor or converter: at 128 kbps an hour is about 58 MB.
A course on one pack
Thirty lectures of 90 minutes add up to 2,700 minutes. That is more than the $12 pack holds, so the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes covers the course with 2,300 minutes to spare, at $0.29 an audio hour.
What the lecture turns into
A brief of the argument and takeaways, chapters with timestamps, the names, numbers and dates said aloud, and the questions the lecture answered. The chat finds a passage for you, such as where the reading list was discussed.
Camera video elsewhere
A long Nikon clip is usually too large or too long for a quick transcription tool.
✗ Where long clips stall
A clean lecture, held up by limits on size and length.
- The OpenAI Whisper API stops at 25 MB per file
- Free tiers that quit at the half-hour mark
- Gigabytes of video uploaded for the sake of the sound
- Lectures cut into slices to pass a limit
- Notes rebuilt by scrubbing the timeline
- A card full of talks that nobody reads
✓ Clip in, text out
The whole lecture comes back on one timeline.
- MOV or MP4 as the camera wrote it
- Two hours done in roughly 4 minutes
- Clips as large as 5 GB accepted
- A chapter per lecture topic
- The opening 20 minutes of the lecture, free
- $24 for a full course

FAQ
Nikon Z recordings, the common questions.
How long will a 2-hour clip take?
Around 4 minutes, since processing runs at roughly 2 minutes per audio hour. For a longer reference, the proof page records 9.31 hours of audio completed in 1,033 seconds.
What does one lecture, or a course, cost?
The first 20 minutes cost nothing for a new visitor. A 2-hour lecture fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes. Thirty 90-minute lectures, 2,700 minutes, call for the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes.
My MOV is larger than 2 GB. Will it upload?
Files up to 2 GB upload before a pack, and anything larger starts once a pack is on the account, up to 5 GB or 10 hours a file. Exporting the soundtrack as MP3 keeps a long lecture far below both.
The camera saved one talk as several clips. Should they be merged before uploading?
A camera may start a new file partway through a long take; the manual says when. Upload the clips one by one, or join them in an editor and export one audio file so the timestamps run straight through.
Does the lecture have to be in English?
99 languages, chosen automatically from the audio. A lecture given mainly in one language with terms in another is detected on the main language.
Which files do I get, and what happens to the clip?
One run produces TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON, so notes and subtitles come from the same pass. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and you can delete a clip and its text whenever you like.
