Transcribe a Teams for Education class recording once it is on your computer.
To transcribe a class recorded in Microsoft Teams for Education, download the MP4 from OneDrive or the class team's SharePoint files and upload it here; a two-hour class is ready in about 4 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free, and 120 minutes is part of the $6 pack of 500 minutes. WhipScribe has no bot in Teams and does not read OneDrive links; it reads the MP4 you download.
From the class team to text
The class was recorded in Teams. The revision happens in the transcript.
Where class recordings land
A class meeting held in a class team's channel is usually saved to that team's SharePoint files, while a meeting scheduled outside a channel goes to the OneDrive of whoever started the recording. Open the recording from the meeting chat or the Files tab, choose Download, and you have an MP4.
Save it before it expires
Schools often set recordings to expire after a period chosen by the IT admin, and an expired recording disappears from OneDrive. Teachers who want a term's classes as text should download each MP4 soon after the lesson. If the download option is greyed out, the person who recorded the class can save a copy.
What a term of Teams classes costs
A 50-minute class five days a week for eight weeks is 40 recordings and exactly 2,000 minutes, the size of the $12 pack. A single two-hour class uses 120 of the 500 minutes in the $6 pack, and a semester above 2,000 minutes belongs on the $24 pack of 5,000.
Students and permissions
Students can transcribe the class recordings their teacher has made available to them. Sharing a downloaded class video beyond the class is a question for school rules, not something WhipScribe decides. Drop the file you are allowed to keep on upload page, and a student who was absent can catch up by reading instead of watching.
Where Teams class recordings stall
The class is saved in Teams. Studying from a two-hour video is another job.
✗ Studying from the video
Recordings in a class team are easy to find and slow to revise from.
- Scrolling the meeting player for one explanation
- Recordings that expire before the exam
- A 25 MB Whisper API limit, far under a class MP4
- Splitting the class video for short-file tools
- A new clock in every piece of the class
- Deadlines said once and never posted
✓ Studying from the class transcript
The class as text, with timestamps back into the video.
- One upload for the whole class
- Chapters where each topic begins
- Names, numbers and dates said, in a list
- Questions the class answers, collected
- A chat to find the week's key definition
- SRT or VTT if the teacher wants captions

FAQ
Teams for Education recordings, answered.
How long does a two-hour Teams class take?
Close to 4 minutes, at roughly 2 minutes per hour of class audio. A 50-minute lesson is back in under 2 minutes.
Can I paste the OneDrive or SharePoint link?
No. Those links need your school sign-in, so they cannot be fetched. Save the MP4 to your computer and upload it; a class video up to 2 GB uploads before your first pack, and up to 5 GB with one.
What will a term of Teams classes cost?
Forty 50-minute classes total 2,000 minutes, exactly the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes. One two-hour class sits on the $6 pack of 500 minutes. A first visit gets the first 20 minutes free, and a pack transcribes the rest from where the preview stopped. Prices are in US dollars.
Does a WhipScribe bot join the class meeting?
No. Nothing joins a live class and there is no Teams app. Once the class ends, you download the recording and WhipScribe works on that file. Any live captions shown in the meeting belong to Teams and stay there.
The class mixes English and Spanish. Is that a problem?
No. 99 languages are detected automatically; a class that switches languages is detected on its main one, and the switches are handled.
Which files come back, and who sees the class recording?
The class downloads as TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON. The teacher and students who speak are named in the summary, key quotes and chapters. Class recordings are transcribed on our own servers and never used for training.
