Transcribe Zoom for Education class recordings from the school's cloud to searchable text.
A class saved to your school's Zoom cloud can be downloaded and uploaded here, and a 75-minute session comes back as a transcript in about 2.5 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free; one class fits the $6 pack of 500 minutes, and a semester of 45 such classes, 3,375 minutes, fits the $24 pack of 5,000.
From the cloud recording to notes
Zoom keeps the class. You need something you can read before the next one.
Where the class recording sits
Cloud recordings usually appear in the Recordings section of the Zoom web portal, under the account of whoever hosted the class. Each session typically offers an MP4 with video and, if the school enabled it, an audio-only M4A. Either one uploads; the audio file is smaller and transcribes the same speech.
Download before the retention date
Many schools set cloud recordings to delete themselves after a fixed number of days. A teacher who wants a term of classes as text should save each recording to a computer soon after it ends. A student can only download when the host has allowed it, so ask the teacher if the button is missing.
A semester, added up
A 75-minute class three times a week across 15 weeks is 45 sessions and 3,375 minutes. That sits on the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes with 1,625 to spare for office hours and review sessions. A single class needs only the $6 pack of 500 minutes.
Consent and sharing
Recording a class needs whatever consent the rules where you teach require, and Zoom usually shows a recording notice to everyone in the room. Sharing a downloaded class beyond its students is a question for the school. Drop the file you are allowed to keep on upload page; nothing is posted anywhere.
Revising from a class video
Scrubbing a 75-minute replay for one definition is slow work.
✗ Back to the replay
The class exists, but only as something to watch.
- Dragging the playhead to find one example
- Recordings that vanish after the retention date
- Short-clip tools that stop long before the class ends
- The Whisper API's 25 MB limit, below most class MP4s
- Homework instructions said once, never written down
- Chat questions with no spoken answer attached
✓ From the transcript
The class as text with a clock back into the recording.
- The whole session in one upload
- Chapters where each topic starts
- Dates and page numbers said aloud, in a list
- Questions the class answered, gathered
- A chat to find the moment a term was defined
- Caption files for students who need them

FAQ
Zoom for Education recordings, answered.
How long does a class recording take?
Roughly 2 minutes for every hour of audio, so a 75-minute class takes about 2.5 minutes and a 3-hour seminar about 6. A published run of 9.31 hours finished in 1,033 seconds; see /proof/long-files.
Can I paste the Zoom share link?
No. Zoom share links usually need a passcode or a school sign-in, so they cannot be fetched. Download the MP4 or M4A and upload it. If the class was later posted to YouTube or a public Google Drive link, paste that link instead.
What does a semester cost?
Forty-five 75-minute classes come to 3,375 minutes, which fits the $24 pack of 5,000 minutes. One class sits on the $6 pack of 500. The first 20 minutes are free on a first visit, and a pack transcribes the rest from where the preview stopped.
Does anything join our Zoom classes?
No bot, app or integration joins a class. WhipScribe only works on a recording after the class has ended, from the file you upload.
How big can the file be?
Up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file. Before the first pack, files up to 2 GB upload; a larger class video starts once a pack is on the account. The audio-only M4A is often far smaller than the MP4 and is a quick way under 2 GB.
Which languages and exports?
99 languages are detected automatically, and a class that switches between two is read on its main one. Exports are TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Class recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
