Stereo 32-bit float · microSD · 5 h in about 10 min

Transcribe long sessions from a Zoom M4 MicTrak a whole workshop in one upload.

A 5-hour workshop recorded on a Zoom M4 MicTrak transcribes in about 10 minutes; its stereo 32-bit float WAV is near 6.9 GB at 48 kHz, so export a 16-bit or MP3 copy under 5 GB before uploading. The first 20 minutes are free, and the session uses 300 of the 500 minutes in a $6 pack.

From the table to text

Set on the table, the M4 records the room for hours. Its inputs can bring in a lavalier or a desk mic too.

What a take leaves

The M4 MicTrak records to microSD. With only the built-in X/Y mics in use, a take is usually one stereo WAV; with the two inputs in use as well, there can be more than one file per take, so look at the folder before you choose.

Bringing it under 5 GB

Stereo 32-bit float at 48 kHz is 384,000 bytes a second, so five hours comes to about 6.9 GB. Exported as 16-bit stereo it is about 3.5 GB, and as a 96 kbps MP3 about 216 MB; either one carries the speech.

Mix in the presenter

If the presenter wore a lavalier into one of the inputs, mix it with the X/Y room sound before export. The presenter stays clear, and the questions from the room come through the built-in mics in the same file.

Out of the session

Each session returns with a brief, chapters with timestamps for each module, the names, numbers and dates mentioned, and the decisions and questions raised. A team that runs these every week may prefer the $19/month Workspace.

Long sessions elsewhere

A recorder that sits through a whole workshop leaves a file nobody wants to scrub through.

✗ The detours people take

Hours of useful talk, no practical way in.

  • OpenAI Whisper API uploads capped at 25 MB
  • A 6.9 GB float file with nowhere to go

  • Room questions lost under the presenter
  • Action items remembered by whoever stayed
  • Slides without the explanation

✓ One session, one record

Sized down once, transcribed in one run.

  • 16-bit or MP3 copy under 5 GB
  • Five hours back in about 10 minutes
  • A chapter for each module
  • Decisions and questions listed

00:05:02 Phones face down, please. Module one runs until the coffee break, then we start on the case files.
01:38:47 So the form goes to the supervisor first, not straight to payroll? That's not how we were told.
03:02:15 Exactly, and that's the change that started in the spring. Write it on the checklist.
04:44:30 Before we close, who is taking the updated checklist back to the night team?

FAQ

Zoom M4 MicTrak recordings, the common questions.

How long does a 5-hour M4 MicTrak session take?

About 10 minutes once it has uploaded. A 2-hour session takes around 4.

My float file is over 5 GB. What should I send?

A 16-bit WAV or an MP3 export of the same mix. Five hours of stereo at 16-bit is about 3.5 GB, which starts once a pack is on the account; an MP3 of a few hundred megabytes starts before one.

What does a month of workshops cost?

Four 5-hour sessions are 1,200 minutes, on the $12 pack of 2,000. One session fits the $6 pack, and a first visit includes the first 20 minutes free. Credits never expire.

Should I upload the inputs separately?

Only for one transcript per mic. A single mix of the X/Y mics and any lavalier gives one document in which the summary, key quotes and chapters name who spoke.

Is there an M4 MicTrak integration?

No. WhipScribe has no connection to the recorder or its apps. Export the mix and upload it, or paste a Google Drive share link to it.

Languages, exports and privacy?

99 languages, detected automatically, and a session that moves between languages is detected on its main one. The session exports to TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON. Internal training stays internal: recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
