Transcribe long recordings from a Zoom Q2n-4K the talking between the music.
The Zoom Q2n-4K records MOV files to a microSD card, and a 3-hour talk, workshop or masterclass from it is text in about 6 minutes. The first 20 minutes are free and the $6 pack of 500 minutes transcribes the other 160, with 340 minutes left.
A music recorder, used for words
The Q2n-4K is built for music, and plenty of teachers and speakers point it at a lectern too.
From the card
The camera writes MOV files to its microSD card. Connect it to a computer or use a card reader, copy the file, and drop it here. A MOV that is under the size limit uploads as it is, with nothing to convert. The files are numbered in the order you recorded, which helps when one evening produced several sessions.
Music in, words out
In a masterclass or rehearsal the teacher talks between the pieces. Music, singing and applause are not transcribed; the spoken instruction is. The brief and chapters then follow the advice given, piece by piece. A talk with a live demonstration works the same way: the explanation comes through, the playing does not.
When the file grows
Video size is bitrate multiplied by time: at 60 Mbps a recording reaches 27 GB an hour (60 divided by 8, times 3,600). Lower resolutions write far less, and a 3-hour session saved as MP3 at 128 kbps is about 173 MB.
A season of masterclasses
Ten masterclasses of 2 hours each are 1,200 minutes. The $12 pack of 2,000 minutes covers the season and leaves 800 for the rehearsals you record next.
Talk recordings elsewhere
A good room recording, and the words are still locked inside a video file.

FAQ
Zoom Q2n-4K recordings, the common questions.
How long does a 3-hour Q2n-4K session take?
Close to 6 minutes, as each hour of sound takes about 2. For scale, a 4.94-hour recording on the proof page was done in 372 seconds.
What does a session, or a season, cost?
On a first visit the first 20 minutes are free. A 3-hour workshop is 180 minutes on the $6 pack of 500 minutes. Ten 2-hour masterclasses, 1,200 minutes, fit the $12 pack of 2,000 minutes.
My MOV is bigger than 2 GB. Can a MOV that size still be uploaded?
Files up to 2 GB upload before a pack; larger ones start once a pack is on the account, up to 5 GB or 10 hours a file. Saving the audio as MP3 keeps a long session small.
Will the music be transcribed?
No. Music, singing and applause are not transcribed; the talking is, which is what you want from a masterclass or a talk.
Which languages work?
The spoken language is detected automatically, from 99. A class taught in one main language with musical terms in Italian or German is detected on the main language.
What do I get, and who hears the recording?
TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON downloads. Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training, and you can delete the session and its text when you are done.
