vMix · MP4, AVI, MOV, MXF, MKV and WAV

Transcribe a vMix recording to text.

vMix records the programme output to whatever format you chose in Recording settings, and can write a separate uncompressed WAV beside it. Every one of those files uploads as it is. For a long service or event, the WAV is the small, quick one to send.

The file you have

What vMix writes when you press Record.

Format
Your choice in Recording settings: MP4 (H.264 and AAC), vMix AVI, and through the FFmpeg option MPG, TS, MOV and MXF; MKV is offered too. All of them upload without converting.
Separate audio
WAV File Record in Recording settings writes an uncompressed PCM WAV next to the video, without changing the video's own audio.
Recovery
MXF, MKV and the non-indexed MOV and MP4 options can be recovered after a crash or power cut; a plain MP4 interrupted mid-recording may not open.
Size
vMix AVI and high-bitrate MXF are large: a long event can run to tens of gigabytes. The words are all in the audio.

There is no link to paste for this one. A vMix recording is a file on the production PC, so upload it here. If the event was also streamed to YouTube, the public video link can be pasted instead once the stream has ended.

How it works

Three steps, the first one is the only one that takes any thought.

1

Find the recording

It is in the folder set under Settings → Recording. If WAV File Record was on, the WAV is beside the video.

2

Drop the smallest file that has the words

The WAV, or an MP4, is far quicker to send than vMix AVI or MXF. Large files continue on the main upload page, which sends them in parts.

3

Read, then export

The summary and a preview are free. A pack opens the full transcript with TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON exports.

Good to know

What trips people up, and what to do about it.

Example. A two-hour Sunday service produced in vMix to a 1080p MP4 is several gigabytes, with the WAV beside it at over a gigabyte. Uploading the WAV gives a transcript with chapters for the readings, the sermon and the notices, and an SRT that matches the MP4 because both started at the same moment.

What comes back

More than a wall of text.

The same four things for every vMix recording, whatever its length.

A transcript with timestamps

Every line carries its time. Click a line to hear that second again, or search a name or phrase and jump to each place it was said.

A summary, chapters and key quotes

A brief with the takeaways, chapters with their start times, and the quotes worth keeping. Speakers are identified and named in the summary, key quotes and chapters.

Questions answered from the recording

Ask where a topic came up or what was decided, and get the answer with the time it was said, instead of scrolling the whole text.

Every export

TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT, JSON from the same transcript: a document to edit, caption files for video, plain text to paste, structured data for your own tools.

Pricing

Free preview. Packs from $6, and the minutes never expire.

A two-hour service or event is 120 minutes, so the $6 pack (500 minutes) covers it 4 times over. Every recording gets a free preview and a summary you can read before paying; a pack opens the full transcript and every export. Packs are one-time purchases with no subscription and no seat fee.

What we measured, last 30 days

2,547 recordings, 1,244 audio hours, 66 languages detected. An hour of audio came back in 3.5 minutes for half of the recordings and within 18.0 minutes for nine in ten, measured from the moment the file landed to the finished transcript. Refreshed 2026-10-07; method on how we test.

FAQ

vMix to text, answered.

Which vMix recording formats can I upload?

All of the ones vMix offers: MP4, AVI, MOV, MXF, MKV, TS and MPG, and the separate WAV. Nothing needs converting before upload.

Should I upload the vMix video or the WAV?

The WAV when you have it. It is audio only, a fraction of the size of an AVI or MXF, so it uploads faster, and it was recorded alongside the video, so the timestamps line up.

Does vMix have built-in transcription?

vMix is live production software; it records and streams, and does not write a transcript of a finished recording. Upload the file afterwards to get one.

My vMix recording has several audio tracks. Which is transcribed?

You get one transcript of the file, not one per track, and you cannot pick the track. To be sure it is the programme mix, upload the separate WAV from WAV File Record, or export the mix on its own first.

What does transcribing vMix recordings cost?

The preview and the summary are free. A pack opens the full transcript: $6 for 500 minutes, $8 for 1,000 minutes, $12 for 2,000 minutes, $24 for 5,000 minutes. Packs are one-time, credits never expire, and Workspace is $19 a month if you transcribe every week.

How long can the recording be?

One file can run up to 10 hours or 5 GB. The box on this page takes files up to 500 MB; a larger file continues on the main upload page, which uploads it in parts. Most recordings come back in about two minutes per hour of audio.

Is the recording kept private?

Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. You can delete a recording and its transcript at any time.
