Sizes use 1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes and 1 GB = 1,000 MB. Compressed size = bitrate × seconds ÷ 8. WAV size = sample rate × bit depth × channels × seconds ÷ 8. FLAC is lossless but its size depends on the audio; we assume 55% of the matching WAV (776 kbps), and speech often compresses further.

What this means for transcription

You do not need to compress or split audio for WhipScribe. One file up to 10 hours or 5 GB uploads as it is, so every compressed format in the table fits ten hours in one file. Only stereo WAV at 44.1 kHz and above crosses 5 GB before the 10-hour mark. For that case, export an M4A or MP3 copy, which keeps every word, or send a link. A file over 2 GB uploads the same way, up to 5 GB, and transcription starts with a free preview of the opening minutes.

To see the time and cost for a specific recording, use the large recording calculator. There is more on transcribing large files and on transcription for long recordings. The opening minutes are a free preview; packs are $4 for 500 minutes, $12 for 2,000 minutes and $24 for 5,000 minutes, and credits never expire.

Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training.
