MP4 · video in, transcript out

Transcribe an MP4 file to a transcript.

Drop the MP4 as it is; there is no need to pull the audio out first. The speech comes back as a timestamped transcript with chapters, and as caption files that match the video's timing.

The file you have

What matters about your MP4.

Size
Up to 500 MB in the box on this page; up to 5 GB on the main upload page. Screen recordings and phone video often land between the two.
Length
Up to 10 hours.
Sound
The first audio track is transcribed. A video with no sound, or with music only, has nothing to transcribe.
Where it came from
Zoom, Teams and Meet recordings, phone cameras, screen recorders, downloaded webinars and lectures all produce ordinary MP4s.

Sometimes a link works. Upload the file, or paste a link if the video is already online: a Google Drive link set to 'Anyone with the link', a direct address ending in .mp4, or a public video page.

How it works

Three steps, the first one is the only one that takes any thought.

1

Drop the MP4

Or, over 500 MB, upload it from the main page, which sends it in parts.

2

Wait a few minutes

About two minutes of processing per hour of video once the upload is in.

3

Take the transcript and captions

TXT or DOCX to read and edit; SRT or VTT to caption the same video.

Good to know

What trips people up, and what to do about it.

Example. A 95-minute recorded webinar is a 620 MB MP4. Uploaded from the main page, it is transcribed in about three minutes; the VTT goes onto the video and the summary becomes the recap email. Checked 4 October 2026: MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI and FLV video files uploaded through this site came back as text; in a two-track test file only the first audio track was transcribed.

What comes back

More than a wall of text.

The same four things for every MP4 recording, whatever its length.

A transcript with timestamps

Every line carries its time. Click a line to hear that second again, or search a name or phrase and jump to each place it was said.

A summary, chapters and key quotes

A brief with the takeaways, chapters with their start times, and the quotes worth keeping. Speakers are identified and named in the summary, key quotes and chapters.

Questions answered from the recording

Ask where a topic came up or what was decided, and get the answer with the time it was said, instead of scrolling the whole text.

Every export

TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT, JSON from the same transcript: a document to edit, caption files for video, plain text to paste, structured data for your own tools.

Pricing

Free preview. Packs from $4, and the minutes never expire.

A 95-minute webinar is 95 minutes, so the $4 pack (500 minutes) covers it 5 times over. Every recording gets a free preview and a summary you can read before paying; a pack opens the full transcript and every export. Packs are one-time purchases with no subscription and no seat fee.

Pick a pack to open secure checkout. Workspace is $19 a month for unlimited transcription (300-hour fair-use mark). Full pricing

What we measured, last 30 days

1,901 recordings, 830 audio hours, 64 languages detected. An hour of audio came back in 3.7 minutes for half of the recordings and within 19.7 minutes for nine in ten, measured from the moment the file landed to the finished transcript. Refreshed 2026-10-02; method on how we test.

FAQ

Transcribing MP4 files, answered.

How do I transcribe an MP4 file?

Drop the MP4 in the box on this page (up to 500 MB), or upload it from the main page for files up to 5 GB. The speech is transcribed with timestamps.

Do I need to extract the audio from the video first?

No. The audio is read from the MP4. Extracting it yourself only helps when the video is over 5 GB or your connection is slow.

Can I get subtitles for the MP4?

Yes. Export SRT or VTT from the finished transcript; the timings match the file you uploaded.

Why is my transcript empty?

The video has no speech on its first audio track: it is silent, music only, or your voice was recorded on a second track.

How is this different from the MP4 to text page?

Same engine. That page is the quick converter; this one covers large and long video files, audio tracks and captions.

What does it cost to transcribe an MP4 file?

The preview and the summary are free. A pack opens the full transcript: $4 for 500 minutes, $8 for 1,000 minutes, $12 for 2,000 minutes, $24 for 5,000 minutes. Packs are one-time, credits never expire, and Workspace is $19 a month if you transcribe every week.

How long can the recording be?

One file can run up to 10 hours or 5 GB. The box on this page takes files up to 500 MB; a larger file continues on the main upload page, which uploads it in parts. Most recordings come back in about two minutes per hour of audio.

Is the recording kept private?

Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. You can delete a recording and its transcript at any time.
