Quick answers

The five questions people ask before the first upload.

What does WhipScribe do for Google Drive video recordings?
Finished cuts pile up in a Drive delivery folder and every one needs a subtitle file. Import the folder from the WhipScribe Library, and when the videos are transcribed, Export to Google Drive writes a new Drive folder with an SRT and a TXT for every one.
How much does it cost?
The summary of any recording is free to read; a pack from $6 (500 minutes) opens the full transcript. Credit packs: $6 = 500 min · $8 = 1,000 min · $12 = 2,000 min · $24 = 5,000 min; credits never expire and there is no seat fee. Workspace is $19 a month for unlimited transcription (300-hour fair-use mark; 100 GB of storage included, then $3 per extra 100 GB a month).
How long does a transcript take?
A one-hour recording is usually ready in about two minutes; most files finish in under a minute. Files up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file.
Is it private?
Yes. Transcribed on our own servers; audio is never sent to a third-party AI service. Never used to train, fine-tune or evaluate any model. Delete a recording and its transcript at any time; account deletion removes every record tied to the email.
Which languages and files does it accept?
99+ languages, detected automatically; the transcript stays in the recording's language. Input: any audio or video file (MP3, MP4, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG, WEBM, MOV, GSM and more), a YouTube, podcast, RSS, Google Drive, Twitch or Kick link, or a microphone recording. Export: TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT, JSON.

What matters when transcribing Google Drive video recordings?

01

Straight from the delivery folder

In the Library choose Add content → Google Drive and tick the delivery folder, or tick just the cuts that need subtitles. The video streams from Drive through WhipScribe's server to the transcriber, so a 2 GB MOV never touches your laptop. Project files, stills and Docs in the folder are skipped.

02

One SRT per video, back in Drive

From the Library folder's ⋯ menu, Export to Google Drive… creates a new Drive folder with an SRT and a TXT for every finished transcript, ready to attach in Premiere, Resolve or Final Cut, or to upload next to the video on a platform. Your original videos are not moved or changed.

03

Mixed containers, one import

MP4 from a phone, MOV from a camera, MKV and WebM from screen recorders all qualify, by type or by extension. Each video becomes its own recording under its own file name, so the subtitle files are easy to match to their cuts.

04

Timed to the speech

Caption cues follow the timing of the speech, from per-word timestamps. Loud music beds or room noise under the dialogue lower accuracy on that stretch, so check those cues before delivery. Need VTT for a web player? Download it from each recording.

How it works

How do I transcribe a Google Drive video recording?

Step 1

Connect Google Drive

In the Library, Add content → Google Drive. Google asks you to allow read-only access to your Drive.

Step 2

Pick files or folders

Tick single files or whole folders, subfolders included. Run it again later and the files already done are skipped.

Step 3

Read, then send it back

Each file gets a transcript and the Intelligence brief. Save to Drive writes TXT and SRT into a new Drive folder.

Questions

What else do people ask about Google Drive video transcription?

Can the SRTs be written next to each video in the same Drive folder?

No. Export to Google Drive always creates a new Drive folder holding a TXT and an SRT for each finished transcript. Move them beside the videos afterwards if your workflow needs that.

Can I get VTT or DOCX in Drive as well?

From the Library, the Drive export writes TXT and SRT. VTT, DOCX and JSON are downloads from each recording. Through the API, the Drive export accepts TXT, SRT, VTT and Markdown.

How large can each video be?

Up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file. One import takes up to 500 audio or video files; run it again to pick up the rest, because videos already done are skipped.
