The file you have

Where 8x8 keeps a recorded call.

In 8x8 Work
Call Recordings lists your recordings once your admin has turned recording on. Search by number, then More → Download saves a local copy.
Storage
1 GB of recording storage is included, which 8x8 puts at about 35 hours of audio; more is added automatically in 1 GB steps.
Older calls
Recordings moved to cold storage have to be restored (unarchived) in the Admin Console before they can be downloaded; 8x8's API only downloads recordings still in hot storage.
Contact Center
Agent call recordings are collected over SFTP, in a time-stamped folder per day.

There is no link to paste for this one. 8x8 recordings sit behind your 8x8 sign-in, so there is no public link to paste. Download the recordings and upload the files.

How it works

Three steps, the first one is the only one that takes any thought.

1

Download the recordings

In 8x8 Work open Call Recordings, find the call and choose More → Download. Admins can search and download from the Admin Console.

2

Drop them in the box

Upload one call or many. Each becomes its own transcript in your library.

3

Read, then export

The summary and a preview are free. A pack opens the full transcripts with TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT and JSON exports.

Good to know

What trips people up, and what to do about it.

Example. A week of recorded sales calls downloaded from 8x8 Work is around five hours of audio. Uploaded together, each call becomes a transcript with a summary of what the customer asked for, the numbers and dates that were said, and the follow-ups agreed, and the library search finds every call where a competitor was named.

What comes back

More than a wall of text.

The same four things for every 8x8 recording, whatever its length.

A transcript with timestamps

Every line carries its time. Click a line to hear that second again, or search a name or phrase and jump to each place it was said.

A summary, chapters and key quotes

A brief with the takeaways, chapters with their start times, and the quotes worth keeping. Speakers are identified and named in the summary, key quotes and chapters.

Questions answered from the recording

Ask where a topic came up or what was decided, and get the answer with the time it was said, instead of scrolling the whole text.

Every export

TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT, JSON from the same transcript: a document to edit, caption files for video, plain text to paste, structured data for your own tools.

Pricing

Free preview. Packs from $6, and the minutes never expire.

A week of recorded calls is 300 minutes, so the $6 pack (500 minutes) covers it with minutes left for the next one. Every recording gets a free preview and a summary you can read before paying; a pack opens the full transcript and every export. Packs are one-time purchases with no subscription and no seat fee.

Pick a pack to open secure checkout. Workspace is $19 a month for unlimited transcription (300-hour fair-use mark). Full pricing

What we measured, last 30 days

2,547 recordings, 1,244 audio hours, 66 languages detected. An hour of audio came back in 3.5 minutes for half of the recordings and within 18.0 minutes for nine in ten, measured from the moment the file landed to the finished transcript. Refreshed 2026-10-07; method on how we test.

FAQ

8x8 call recordings to text, answered.

How do I download an 8x8 call recording?

In 8x8 Work open Call Recordings, find the call (you can search by phone number), choose More and then Download. Administrators can also find and download recordings in the 8x8 Admin Console.

Why can I not download an older 8x8 recording?

It has probably moved to cold storage. Cold-storage recordings have to be unarchived in the Admin Console before they can be downloaded.

Can I transcribe many 8x8 calls at once?

Yes. Upload as many recordings as you need; each becomes its own transcript with a summary, and the library searches across all of them.

How do I get 8x8 Contact Center recordings?

8x8 Contact Center makes agent call recordings available over SFTP, in a time-stamped folder for each day. Copy the files with an SFTP client such as FileZilla, then upload them here.

What does transcribing 8x8 recordings cost?

The preview and the summary are free. A pack opens the full transcript: $6 for 500 minutes, $8 for 1,000 minutes, $12 for 2,000 minutes, $24 for 5,000 minutes. Packs are one-time, credits never expire, and Workspace is $19 a month if you transcribe every week.

How long can the recording be?

One file can run up to 10 hours or 5 GB. The box on this page takes files up to 500 MB; a larger file continues on the main upload page, which uploads it in parts. Most recordings come back in about two minutes per hour of audio.

Is the recording kept private?

Recordings are transcribed on our own servers and are never used for training. You can delete a recording and its transcript at any time.
