Quick answers
The five questions people ask before the first upload.
- What does WhipScribe do for Google Drive lecture recordings?
- Lecture capture leaves a course folder in Drive with a subfolder per week and an MP4 per session.
- How much does it cost?
- The summary of any recording is free to read; a pack from $6 (500 minutes) opens the full transcript. Credit packs: $6 = 500 min · $8 = 1,000 min · $12 = 2,000 min · $24 = 5,000 min; credits never expire and there is no seat fee. Workspace is $19 a month for unlimited transcription (300-hour fair-use mark; 100 GB of storage included, then $3 per extra 100 GB a month).
- How long does a transcript take?
- A one-hour recording is usually ready in about two minutes; most files finish in under a minute. Files up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file.
- Is it private?
- Yes. Transcribed on our own servers; audio is never sent to a third-party AI service. Never used to train, fine-tune or evaluate any model. Delete a recording and its transcript at any time; account deletion removes every record tied to the email.
- Which languages and files does it accept?
- 99+ languages, detected automatically; the transcript stays in the recording's language. Input: any audio or video file (MP3, MP4, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG, WEBM, MOV, GSM and more), a YouTube, podcast, RSS, Google Drive, Twitch or Kick link, or a microphone recording. Export: TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT, JSON.

Built for Lectures in Drive
What matters when transcribing Google Drive lecture recordings?
The course folder, week by week
In the Library choose Add content → Google Drive and tick the course folder with Include subfolders on. Week 01 to Week 12 come back as matching Library subfolders, each lecture under its own file name. Slides, PDFs and reading lists in the same folders are skipped; only audio and video are imported.
Captions for every session
Download each lecture's SRT or VTT to attach in your learning platform or video player, or export the whole course folder back to a new Drive folder with a TXT and an SRT for every finished lecture from the folder's ⋯ menu. Captions make recorded lectures usable with the sound off and for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Long sessions, one recording each
A three-hour seminar block goes in whole, up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file; MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM all qualify. Each lecture opens on chapters with times, so a student can jump to the derivation at 47:10 instead of scrubbing.
Captions and text where students already look
Export to Google Drive… on the course folder writes a new Drive folder with a TXT and an SRT for every finished lecture; share that Drive folder with the class the way you share the slides. For one lecture, use Share on that recording and send the link: anyone with it can read the transcript.
How it works
How do I transcribe a Google Drive lecture recording?
Connect Google Drive
In the Library, Add content → Google Drive. Google asks you to allow read-only access to your Drive.
Pick files or folders
Tick single files or whole folders, subfolders included. Run it again later and the files already done are skipped.
Read, then send it back
Each file gets a transcript and the Intelligence brief. Save to Drive writes TXT and SRT into a new Drive folder.
Intelligence
What comes back from a Google Drive lecture recording?
Week 05 — Marginal cost and the shape of the supply curve
Brief overview
Marginal cost is defined from the cost table, shown to cross average cost at its minimum, and used to derive the firm's short-run supply curve.
- Marginal cost is defined at 12:30 as the change in total cost from one more unit.
- Marginal cost crosses average cost at its lowest point, worked through at 47:10.
- The short-run supply curve is the marginal cost curve above average variable cost, stated at 1:31:00.
Questions this recording answers
- Where does marginal cost cross average cost?
- At the minimum of average cost, worked through at 47:10.
- What is the short-run supply curve?
- The part of the marginal cost curve above average variable cost.
Chapters
- Recap of week 4
- Defining marginal cost
- Where MC meets AC
- Short-run supply

Questions
What else do people ask about Google Drive lecture transcription?
Can students who are not on my account read the transcripts?
Yes, two ways. Export the course folder to Google Drive, which writes a TXT and an SRT for every finished lecture into a new Drive folder you can share like any other, or use Share on a single recording and send the link. Students do not need a WhipScribe account for either.
Which caption formats can I get for each lecture?
SRT and VTT downloads from each lecture, alongside TXT, DOCX and JSON. Export to Google Drive… on the course folder writes a TXT and an SRT for every finished lecture into a new Drive folder.
Does it keep transcribing new lectures added to the folder?
No. The Drive import runs once. Run it again after new lectures are added and only the new files start, because those already done are skipped. For hands-off captions by API, see /automations/lecture-recordings-to-captioned-lessons.
Caption the semester in one import.
