How it works

Croatian subtitles in three steps.

1

Upload the Croatian recording

Drop a file, or paste a public link from YouTube, Google Drive or a podcast feed. Files over 500 MB continue on the upload page, up to 10 hours or 5 GB.

2

Read it through

Read the first Croatian cues against the audio. Correct a line on the transcript and the subtitle file carries the correction.

3

Download SRT or VTT

SRT for YouTube Studio and video editors, VTT for web players. TXT, DOCX and JSON come from the same transcript.

What to expect with Croatian

Honest notes for Croatian recordings.

For a transcript rather than subtitles, see transcribe Croatian, Croatian audio to text and Croatian YouTube video to text. For subtitles from any YouTube link, YouTube to SRT; for any file, the SRT generator.

Captioning Croatian

Five letters that decide whether a viewer reads it as Croatian.

Croatian is written in the Latin alphabet with č, ć, đ, š and ž, and each is a separate letter, not a decoration. Older tools that saved files in Windows-1250 or that strip accents turn đ into dj and drop the rest, which a Croatian viewer reads as careless. Keep the downloaded file in UTF-8 when you edit it.

Croatian and its neighbours share most of their grammar but differ in everyday words (tisuća and hiljada, kruh and hleb) and in the ije/je spelling of the old jat vowel. If you subtitle for a Croatian audience, read the cues for words a speaker from elsewhere in the region may have used.

Delivery

Where a Croatian subtitle file goes.

Before you rely on it

What the subtitle file is, and what it is not.

One cue per spoken phrase

Each cue is a phrase from the transcript with its start and end time. Most run a few seconds. A passage spoken without a pause can come out as one long cue of up to about half a minute, so split those in your editor if your platform wants two short lines at a time.

Timing comes from the audio

Cue times are taken from the recording itself, so the file lines up with the video or audio you uploaded. If you trim the start of the video afterwards, shift the cues by the same amount in your editor.

Fix a line before you download

Open the transcript, correct a misheard name or number on its line, and the SRT and VTT you download carry the correction with the timing unchanged.

A plain file, not a styled video

You get the subtitle file. Fonts, colours, position and captions drawn into the picture are done in your video editor or player, which reads this file.

Limits

Up to 10 hours or 5 GB per recording. The box on this page takes files up to 500 MB; larger ones continue on the upload page. 99+ languages, detected automatically.

Speakers

Speakers are identified and named in the summary, key quotes and chapters. The cues in the subtitle file carry the words and their timing only.

Pricing

What Croatian subtitles cost

The preview is free. When the full transcript needs a pack, one-time packs are $4 for 500 minutes, $12 for 2,000 minutes, $24 for 5,000 minutes. Credits never expire, which comes to about $0.29 to $0.48 per hour of audio.

FAQ

Croatian subtitles, answered.

How do I make Croatian subtitles for a video?

Upload the video or paste its link in the box on this page. The Croatian speech is transcribed in Latin script; read it through, correct any line, and download SRT or VTT from the transcript.

Will Croatian come out with č, ć and đ?

Yes. The text is in Latin script with the full set of Croatian letters. If they show as other characters, the file was opened in a non-UTF-8 encoding; re-open it as UTF-8.

What if a speaker uses Serbian or Bosnian words?

They are written as spoken. Mixed regional speech is the passage worth a second read before you publish.

Which font should I use for Croatian subtitles?

Any font covering Latin Extended-A, which includes most system fonts. Check that đ and ć render in a cue before exporting.

How accurate are Croatian subtitles?

We have not published a benchmark figure for Croatian, so we do not quote one. Judge it on your own recording: the free preview (free preview of the opening minutes) shows the text before you pay.

How long can a Croatian recording be?

Up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file. Files over 500 MB continue on the upload page rather than in the box on this page.
