Quick answers
The five questions people ask before the first upload.
- What does WhipScribe do for voice memo recordings?
- Import the Drive folder your phone's voice memos sync to and each M4A becomes a short timestamped transcript with a brief, filed in a Library folder of the same name.
- How much does it cost?
- The summary of any recording is free to read; a pack from $6 (500 minutes) opens the full transcript. Credit packs: $6 = 500 min · $8 = 1,000 min · $12 = 2,000 min · $24 = 5,000 min; credits never expire and there is no seat fee. Workspace is $19 a month for unlimited transcription (300-hour fair-use mark; 100 GB of storage included, then $3 per extra 100 GB a month).
- How long does a transcript take?
- A one-hour recording is usually ready in about two minutes; most files finish in under a minute. Files up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file.
- Is it private?
- Yes. Transcribed on our own servers; audio is never sent to a third-party AI service. Never used to train, fine-tune or evaluate any model. Delete a recording and its transcript at any time; account deletion removes every record tied to the email.
- Which languages and files does it accept?
- 99+ languages, detected automatically; the transcript stays in the recording's language. Input: any audio or video file (MP3, MP4, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG, WEBM, MOV, GSM and more), a YouTube, podcast, RSS, Google Drive, Twitch or Kick link, or a microphone recording. Export: TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT, JSON.

What matters when transcribing voice memo recordings?
Hundreds of short files in one go
In the Library choose Add content → Google Drive and use the memos folder whole, or tick just the memos you want. One import takes hundreds of files; if a folder holds more, run it again and it carries on with the ones not yet done. Each memo becomes its own recording under its own file name.
A memo you can skim in seconds
A 40-second thought recorded on a walk comes back as text with timestamps, and longer memos open on a brief with the names, numbers and dates you said. You read the idea instead of finding time to replay it.
Find the memo, not just the word
Ask this folder answers a plain question, such as what you said about the second act, from the memos that mention it, up to three, each cited by memo and moment. For a wider sweep, Ask library asks across the whole Library.
Wind, pockets and mumbling
Memos are recorded outdoors, in cars and half under a coat. Every line is tied to its moment in the audio, so when a word looks wrong you click it and hear what you actually said.
How it works
How do I transcribe a voice memo recording?
Connect Google Drive
In the Library, Add content → Google Drive. Google asks you to allow read-only access to your Drive.
Pick files or folders
Tick single files or whole folders, subfolders included. Run it again later and the files already done are skipped.
Read, then send it back
Each file gets a transcript and the Intelligence brief. Save to Drive writes TXT and SRT into a new Drive folder.

What comes back from a voice memo recording?
Memo 2026-03-14 — restructuring chapter four
Brief overview
Chapter four should open on the flood rather than the wedding, with the wedding moved to a flashback in chapter six.
- Opening on the flood at 00:40 puts the stakes on the first page.
- The wedding becomes a flashback inside chapter six, said at 02:30.
- Ask the editor by the 28th whether the new order breaks the timeline, at 05:10.
Questions this recording answers
- What should chapter four open on?
- The flood, not the wedding (00:40).
- Where does the wedding go?
- Into chapter six, as a flashback (02:30).

Questions
What else do people ask about voice memo transcription?
Which memo formats work?
Audio and video files by type, or by extension: M4A from iPhone Voice Memos and most Android recorders, plus MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OPUS, OGG, WEBM and common video formats. Other files in the folder, such as notes or photos, are skipped.
Will new memos be picked up automatically?
Not by the Drive import, which runs once. Run it again whenever you like: memos this account already transcribed from Drive are skipped. For an automatic flow, a Zapier, Make or n8n new-file trigger can send each new memo to the API.
Can the memos end up in Notion?
Yes, with API access (the 5,000-minute pack or Workspace): a small poller can write one Notion page per finished memo. Without the API, open a memo and download TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT or JSON.
