How it works

Assamese subtitles in three steps.

1

Upload the Assamese recording

Drop a file, or paste a public link from YouTube, Google Drive or a podcast feed. Files over 500 MB continue on the upload page, up to 10 hours or 5 GB.

2

Read it through

Read the first Assamese cues against the audio. Correct a line on the transcript and the subtitle file carries the correction.

3

Download SRT or VTT

SRT for YouTube Studio and video editors, VTT for web players. TXT, DOCX and JSON come from the same transcript.

What to expect with Assamese

Honest notes for Assamese recordings.

For a transcript rather than subtitles, see transcribe Assamese, Assamese audio to text and Assamese YouTube video to text. For subtitles from any YouTube link, YouTube to SRT; for any file, the SRT generator.

Captioning Assamese

Bengali letters, two Assamese ones, and a border to watch.

Assamese uses the Eastern Nagari script it shares with Bengali, with two letters of its own: ৰ (ra) and ৱ (wa). They are what makes text read as Assamese rather than Bengali, and the output keeps them. Most fonts that cover Bengali, Noto Sans Bengali included, also carry ৰ and ৱ; check them in your editor before exporting.

Assamese also sounds different from Bengali where the letters are the same. স, শ and ষ are said with a sound close to a breathy kh (written x in romanisation, as in Axom for অসম, Assam), and চ and ছ are said as s. A captioner who spells from the sound in Bengali habits writes the wrong letter, so check names and borrowed words against Assamese spelling.

Because the two languages are close, recordings from mixed border areas, or speakers who switch into Bengali, deserve a careful pass. Assamese ends a sentence with the dari (।), as Bengali does.

Delivery

Where a Assamese subtitle file goes.

Before you rely on it

What the subtitle file is, and what it is not.

One cue per spoken phrase

Each cue is a phrase from the transcript with its start and end time. Most run a few seconds. A passage spoken without a pause can come out as one long cue of up to about half a minute, so split those in your editor if your platform wants two short lines at a time.

Timing comes from the audio

Cue times are taken from the recording itself, so the file lines up with the video or audio you uploaded. If you trim the start of the video afterwards, shift the cues by the same amount in your editor.

Fix a line before you download

Open the transcript, correct a misheard name or number on its line, and the SRT and VTT you download carry the correction with the timing unchanged.

A plain file, not a styled video

You get the subtitle file. Fonts, colours, position and captions drawn into the picture are done in your video editor or player, which reads this file.

Limits

Up to 10 hours or 5 GB per recording. The box on this page takes files up to 500 MB; larger ones continue on the upload page. 99+ languages, detected automatically.

Speakers

Speakers are identified and named in the summary, key quotes and chapters. The cues in the subtitle file carry the words and their timing only.

FAQ

Assamese subtitles, answered.

How do I make Assamese subtitles for a video?

Upload the video or paste its link in the box on this page. The Assamese speech is transcribed in Assamese script; read it through, correct any line, and download SRT or VTT from the transcript.

Will Assamese come back as Bengali?

No. The text is Assamese, with ৰ and ৱ. Recordings that mix in Bengali deserve a careful review.

Do I need a special font for Assamese?

Any font with Bengali-script shaping that includes ৰ and ৱ, such as Noto Sans Bengali.

Should an Assamese subtitle end with a dari?

Yes, Assamese uses the dari (।). Keep one convention throughout.

How accurate are Assamese subtitles?

We have not published a benchmark figure for Assamese, so we do not quote one. Judge it on your own recording: the free preview (first 20 minutes free) shows the text before you pay.

How long can a Assamese recording be?

Up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file. Files over 500 MB continue on the upload page rather than in the box on this page.
