How it works
No software to install and no manual timing.
Files up to 500 MB upload in the box above. Bigger recordings continue on the upload page, up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file.
Speech is transcribed with speaker labels and a timestamp on every word, typically a few minutes for an hour of audio. Preview with no signup.
Download SRT for editors and video platforms or VTT for web players. TXT, DOCX and JSON are included on every pack.
Long videos
Short clips are easy anywhere. The hard part is a two-hour lecture, a full-day webinar series or a four-hour stream, where subtitling by hand is out of the question. One file can run up to 10 hours or 5 GB, and all of it becomes one subtitle file with one continuous timeline.
Only the speech matters for subtitles, and the picture is most of a video’s size. For a large file, run it through the free extract audio from video tool and upload the audio instead. The soundtrack keeps the same timeline as the video, so the SRT still lines up when you add it back.
Split the recording into parts of 10 hours or less and transcribe each part. If you have a whole folder of recordings, see bulk transcription.
Where the file goes
YouTube Studio and most hosting platforms have a subtitles or captions setting that accepts an SRT or VTT file.
Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve import SRT as a caption track, ready to adjust while you edit.
Learning platforms and browser video players usually take VTT, so recorded lessons get captions without re-recording anything.
The same transcript exports as DOCX or TXT and stays in your searchable library, so you can find the minute a topic came up.

Up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file. Without credits the limit is 3 hours, and your first transcript at that length is free. Longer files need credits.
Extract the audio first with the free extract audio from video tool and upload that. The audio file is far smaller and keeps the same timeline, so the subtitles still match the video.
Both are text files of numbered lines with start and end times. SRT is the most widely accepted by editors and platforms; VTT is the format browser video players use. You can download both.
Yes. The transcript includes speaker labels, useful for panels, interviews and webinars with several presenters.
Every word has its own timestamp, and subtitle lines are timed from those word-level timestamps rather than estimated by hand.
A 4-hour recording uses $1.92 of the $8 pack, $1.44 at the $12 pack rate, or $1.15 at the $24 pack rate. Packs are one-time purchases and credits never expire.
