Quick answers
The five questions people ask before the first upload.
- What does WhipScribe do for multilingual recordings?
- Import a folder where interviews arrive in Spanish, French, Arabic, Hindi and English side by side. Leave the language on auto and each file is detected and transcribed in the language it was spoken.
- How much does it cost?
- The summary of any recording is free to read; a pack from $6 (500 minutes) opens the full transcript. Credit packs: $6 = 500 min · $8 = 1,000 min · $12 = 2,000 min · $24 = 5,000 min; credits never expire and there is no seat fee. Workspace is $19 a month for unlimited transcription (300-hour fair-use mark; 100 GB of storage included, then $3 per extra 100 GB a month).
- How long does a transcript take?
- A one-hour recording is usually ready in about two minutes; most files finish in under a minute. Files up to 10 hours or 5 GB per file.
- Is it private?
- Yes. Transcribed on our own servers; audio is never sent to a third-party AI service. Never used to train, fine-tune or evaluate any model. Delete a recording and its transcript at any time; account deletion removes every record tied to the email.
- Which languages and files does it accept?
- 99+ languages, detected automatically; the transcript stays in the recording's language. Input: any audio or video file (MP3, MP4, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG, WEBM, MOV, GSM and more), a YouTube, podcast, RSS, Google Drive, Twitch or Kick link, or a microphone recording. Export: TXT, DOCX, SRT, VTT, JSON.

Built for Multilingual recordings
What matters when transcribing multilingual recordings?
Auto language, decided per file
Each import has one language setting, and its default is auto, which detects the language of each file on its own. Leave it on auto for a folder that mixes countries, so a Portuguese interview and a Swahili focus group in the same folder are each transcribed in their own language. Set one language only when every file in that import shares it.
The transcript stays in the language spoken
Quotes for a report keep their original wording, and the brief, chapters and the names, numbers and dates that were said come back for every file. Speakers are identified and named in the summary, key quotes and chapters. A recording that switches language partway through is worth spot-checking against the audio on the switched stretch.
Country subfolders, kept
Field teams often file recordings by country or partner. Pick the parent folder in Library → Add content → Google Drive and every subfolder comes along by default, mirrored as same-named Library folders, so the Kenya and Peru interviews stay apart in the Library as they were in Drive.
Files from partners who are not in your Drive
A partner can share a single file as Anyone with the link and you paste it, or paste a list of links, one per line, each becoming its own recording. A private link fails with nothing charged and links to help on sharing a Drive file, transcribing one without making it public, and making it private again.
How it works
How do I transcribe a multilingual recording?
Connect Google Drive
In the Library, Add content → Google Drive. Google asks you to allow read-only access to your Drive.
Pick files or folders
Tick single files or whole folders, subfolders included. Run it again later and the files already done are skipped.
Read, then send it back
Each file gets a transcript and the Intelligence brief. Save to Drive writes TXT and SRT into a new Drive folder.

What comes back from a multilingual recording?
Field interview — a cooperative's water-point committee
Brief overview
Committee members say the new water point works, but the repair fund runs dry each dry season because fees are collected only at harvest.
- Daily use and queue times are described at 04:20; the walk to water has fallen sharply.
- The repair fund problem is raised at 14:50: fees arrive once a year, breakdowns come in the dry season.
- At 27:30 members propose monthly contributions and a spare-parts stock held by the treasurer.
Questions this recording answers
- What is the committee's main problem?
- The repair fund is empty when breakdowns happen, because fees are collected only once a year at harvest.
- What do they propose?
- Monthly contributions and a stock of spare parts held by the treasurer, set out at 27:30.
Chapters
- Introductions and consent
- How the water point is used
- The repair fund gap
- Proposals from the committee

Questions
What else do people ask about multilingual transcription?
Do I have to set the language for each file?
No. Leave the import on auto and the language is detected for each file. The language setting applies to the whole import, so choose a specific language only when every file in it is in that language.
Our partners keep their recordings in their own Drive. How do we get them?
Ask them to share each file as Anyone with the link and paste the links, one per line, in Paste links → A list of links. Folder links do not work when pasted. Partners who would rather not make files public can run the Drive import from their own signed-in account.
Are the recordings processed outside our control?
Files stream from Drive through WhipScribe's server to its own transcriber; your Drive credentials never reach the browser. Audio is never sent to a third-party AI service, never used for training, and can be deleted at any time.
Every interview, read in the language it was given.
